Day 21 / 19 th Feb
Bangkok
Got up a little late. Had coffee in the room, got ready and
went down for breakfast which was included in the room tariff. They gave us continental
breakfast without we asking for it, which sure was a welcome change for us. Then went
out to railway station and booked tickets for evening train to Suratthani. I had
lost my helmet, so went out to market in a Tuk Tuk. There are number of stores selling
all fancy bike gear and fancy bikes. We were like three children lost in a toy shop,
but could not buy anything except necessary helmet because of the difficulty of carrying
it back on bikes. Rajoo could not resist temptation and bought one multi tool. Met
a few fellow cyclists, a couple who had cycled 6000 kms already in the last 4 months...
we are still beginners.....
We had to check out at 12 noon so got back to hotel, took
quick (very quick) showers and the went out for lunch. Spent lot of time in the restaurant planning
further route as there was free wifi and ended up spending a lot of money on food
and beer :-)
Our train was to depart at 7.30 pm so went to station at
6.30 pm as we had to book our cycles, did the formalities, paid 90 baht per cycle and
boarded train which was half an hour late, with packed 'Padthai' for dinner.
We were booked in bogie 6 seat no 1,2,3. Cycles were to
go in parcel bogie.Nobody had put our cycles on the train, Kedar loaded them on.
We had seated arrangements (sleepers were full). There were
2x2 seats, an attendant came and asked us to get up, we wouldn't know why......
we got up grumbling and funnily he rotated every seat by 180 deg.....so now everybody was facing
the direction we were going. The train had a pantry, they offered beer, whisky :-)
:-) :-) . We just tried our best to sleep. Kedar was the only one smart enough to
go to the next bogie and lie down using two facing seats.
