Day 24 / 22 nd Feb
Pak Meng to Thung Wa
With directions in hand, we took the road which was not
there on the map. The road, for first hour or so, was along the sea, with casuarina
trees on both sides and mist in the cool morning air, this could possibly be the best stretch
of road on this trip. There were very well marked evacuation routes for Tsunami
danger as this area was badly affected by Tsunami. The directions given to us by
Mr Sawan were perfect and after breakfast (brunch) at a roadside stall we reached the ferry
crossing which was 40 kms from Pak Meng. We took the ferry which started as soon
as we boarded it as if it was waiting for us. The town across was Kantang. There
we exchanged some money. Kedar had a some tension filled moments at the bank as they took a lot of time checking out the USD notes we gave them.
|From here we took a road that took us directly to Yantakhao
and further to Palian and Thungwa bypassing Trang. We did not save any distance,
probably added 10 or so kilometers, but it was worth it. We reached Thungwa at 5pm
and had covered 117 kms. Langu was a further 24 kms away so decided to stay at Thungwa.
We went to market and purchased some eatables, had coffee and banana pan cake at
corner shop run by friendly muslim couple. They were very inquisitive and asked us a lot of questions about our trip. As we have started approaching Malaysia
there is a visible growth in muslim population and every one asks us about our religion
& whether we are Malay. Mosques are everywhere. We went to hotel and again
came to the same square for dinner after the shower. Had lovely Nasi Goreng - Fried
rice with chicken and fried egg on top, for dinner, went back to hotel and had yogurt
for the dessert.
